Dr. Abeles, a futurist, consults with public and private sector clients, internationally, on socially and environmentally responsible technologies and management systems. He was an associate professor of environmental sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where his focus was on renewable resources and technologies.
Joel Schor received his doctorate in history from Howard University and has been a USDA agricultural historian since 1972. His writings includeBlack Americans in Agriculture, 1619–1981; Agriculture in the Black Land-Grant System to 1930; The Black Presence in the U. S. Cooperative Extension Service to 1983: An American Quest for Equity and Service; andThe Evolution and Development of Biotechnology: A Revolutionary Force in American Agriculture. Dr. Schor was guest editor of a special issue ofAgriculture and Human Values on the theme "Anachronisms or Rising Stars: The Black Land Grant System in Perspective.
Sandra L. Russo is Assistant Director of International Studies and Programs at the University of Florida. She has worked extensively in Africa as an agronomist/animal nutritionist and more recently as a gender specialist. Two long term experiences were in Kenya on the SR-CRSP dual purpose goat project and in The Gambia on a range management project to improve collaboration between U. S. universities, the International Agricultural Research Centers, and National Agricultural Research Systems.
