CHARLES WOOD is an Associate Professor of Sociology, with a joint appointment in the Center for Latin American Studies. His degree is from the University of Texas at Austin where he was affiliated with the Population Research Center. He is one of the founders of the Amazon Research and Training Program at the Center for Latin American Studies, and is co-editor of the AMAZON NEWSLETTER as well as FRONTIER EXPANSION IN AMAZONIA, published in 1984. On-going research projects also include a study of Caribbean sugar cane harvesters in southern Florida, and an analysis of the impact of international migration on rural labor markets.
