Conclusions
-
1.
The strain curves for various states of strain with vε i = const and T=const may be described to a first approximation by a single general curve for the stress σi against the strain εi, with the latter dependent on the temperature and the strain rate.
-
2.
A theoretical description has been given for the biaxial strain curves using nonlinear equations incorporating the volume change.
-
3.
Theoretical calculations have been performed via parameters derived from uniaxial stretching and give satisfactory agreement with experiment for two-dimensional stress over a wide range in the ratios between the components of the principal stresses and also a wide range in strain rate.
-
4.
The generalized strain curves for PTFE are similar, no matter what the state of strain, up to εi = 10% within the range of strain rates examined.
