Summary

Coagulation studies of negative As2S3 sol have been made with different cations by measuring colorimetrically the turbidity changes with time. The fiocculation powers ascertained from optical results are in the order La (III) > Al (III) > Th (IV) > Mn (II) > Ba (II) > UO2 (II) > K (I) > Na (I) > Li (I). Zeta potentials of the dispersed particles have been evaluated electrophoretically. With these two sets of data quantitative interpretation of the results was made usingDerjaguin, Verwey andOverbeek theory andReerink andOverbeek method. The values ofA obtained in the presence of different cations are in agreement with the calculated value.
