Gaunt factors for free-free transitions in the fields of the first ions of the rare gases, calculated in the scaled Thomas-Fermi approximation

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik D Atoms, Molecules and Clusters

Abstract

The Scaled Thomas-Fermi method is adapted to the case of positive energy states and used for the calculation of free-free transition probabilities and the corresponding temperature-averaged Gaunt factors of Ne I, Ar I, Kr I, and Xe I. The results are compared with those of the single-channel quantum defect method.
