Determination of iodine number of microgram quantities of fat

Summary

A method is described by which the iodine number may be determined with a reproducibility of ± 1% with as little as 1γ of fat. It was tested by performing 25 determinations on 6 different oils of known iodine number.

By combination with appropriate extraction procedures the method was adapted to determining the iodine number of liver fat in small solid samples.

Zusammenfassung

Die beschriebene Arbeitsweise ermöglicht die Jodzahlbestimmung an 1γ Fett oder Öl mit einer relativen Genauigkeit von ± 1%. Sie wurde durch 25 Bestimmungen an sechs Ölen mit bekannter Jodzahl überprüft. Mit Hilfe geeigneter Extraktionsverfahren gelang es nach unserer Arbeitsweise, die Jodzahl von Leberfett aus sehr kleinen Gewebsproben zu bestimmen.

Résumé

Le mode opératoire décrit permet la détermination de l'indice d'iode sur 1γ de graisse ou d'huile avec une précision relative de ± 1%. On l'a éprouvé par 25 déterminations sur 6 huiles d'indice d'iode connu. A l'aide d'un procédé d'extraction convenable, on réussit avec notre mode opératoire à déterminer l'indice d'iode de la graisse de foie à partir de très petits échantillons.
