Summary
Primary epithelial cell cultures were developed from fetal caruncular, adult intercaruncular pregnant, and adult intercaruncular nonpregnant endometrium. Endometrial cells were obtained from both collagenase dispersion or from explant outgrowth, although the explant method was more consistent. Cultures derived from fetal endometrium grew more rapidly and were more viable after subculturing and cryopreservation than were adult-derived cultures. These cultures provide an in vitro system for the study of bovine endometrial physiology and pathology.
