Investigation of recrystallization in an alloy of the Mg-Y-La-Zr system

Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Abstract

Magnesium alloys are a light material and for this reason they are of interest for technologies where the weight of structures should be decreased to a minimum. Deformable magnesium alloys have very high strength characteristics. The mechanical properties of deformable magnesium alloys are determined by the structural processes occurring in cold-hardening or its removal. One such process is recrystallization. The literature contains little data on recrystallization of magnesium alloys containing yttrium, although yttrium is an effective strengthening agent for magnesium. The present work is devoted to the special features of recrystallization of a magnesium alloy of the Mg-La-Zr system caused by introduction of yttrium into it.
