Abstract
A differential equation for the pertubations of a stationary equilibrium, which takes into account the effects of extrinsic carriers, degeneration, induction of electric field, generation and recombination of carriers is used to study thez-pinch inn-InSb at 77 K. The calculations for the azimuthal wave numberm=0 lead to three oscillating modes, one of which is unstable above a certain threshold of the axial wavelength. This instability is caused by the nonconservation of plasma carriers.
