Summary
Plasma levels of free fatty acids were investigated in 15 healthy control persons and in 15 diabetics not receiving insulin during a 60 min infusion of 0.5 mg noradrenaline in 300 ml of physiological saline. Fasting levels of free fatty acids were 562 ± 207 μEq/l in the control persons and 694 ± 179 μEq/l in the diabetics. The difference between these two values is statistically not significant. Rise of FFA levels during the infusion was similar in both groups investigated. Lack of insulin in diabetics apparently has no activating influence on the hormone-sensitive lipase.
