Summary
The protoplasma of young nutritive cells of the horngall ofAceria (Eriophyes) macrorrhyncha macrorrhyncha onAcer campestre is characterized by a tubular well-developed endoplasmic reticulum and a Golgi apparatus with intensive formation of vesicles. Different inclusions occur in the protoplasma of the cells of older galls:
-
1.
Clews of membranes with a diameter of 45μm, which are formed by the ER-cisternae as well as by Golgi vesicles.
-
2.
Lattice-like membrane structures in the range of the tonoplast, which also arise from the membranes of ER.
-
3.
Parcels of parallely arranged tubules with a diameter of 330 Å.
Single inclusion-bodies were observed in the protoplasma and in the vacuole with a length of 10–15μm and a thickness of 4μm. They are built of many tubular rods with an average diameter of 100 nm; the wall consists of one to five membranes, which are closed in themselves or rolled up.
In addition, in the vacuoles there occur tubular elements with a diameter of 120 Å, which first lie single and then with increasing age of the cells assemble to bundles.
The cell walls adjoined with the living chamber of the animals show vesicular structures.
