An Rutgers van der Loeff has always lived in Amsterdam although she has travelled widely gathering information for her books. She writes mainly for young people and her books have been translated into many languages. She has won honours and awards not only in her own country but in Britain. Germany and America as well. She is married to a physicist and has four children.
