Summary

A polarographic method using a platinum electrode permits continuous recording of the oxygen balance of a singleAcetabularia cell during several days. The amount of oxygen which is consumed by the electrode is immeasurably small. The accuracy of the method is definitely better than 0.05Μl O2/ml medium. The resolution in time is less than 5 min. The length of one period in the circadian rhythm of photosynthesis inAcetabularia has been found to be about 27 hours.
