Abstract
The visible and ultraviolet absorption spectra of crystalline 5-anilinopenta-dienylidenaniliniumbromide have been measured with a microreflexion spectrometer, using polarized light. The (110) crystal plane shows exceptional dichroism, which is interpreted from the results of X-ray structure analysis as being due to the approximately parallel arrangement of the molecular oscillators.
