Summary
The investigation of 6 hydantoins and 11 purine derivatives showed that the IR-spectra of these substances can be definitely distinguished from those of the barbiturates, bromureides and carbamates. The NH-valence vibrations of the hydantoins appear between 3500 and 3200cm−1; the secondary amine groups of the purine derivatives give a strong band in this region (8-chlorotheophyllin at 3130 cm−1, 8-bromotheophyllin at 3150cm−1 and theophyllin near 3050cm−1), whereas the secondary amide group of theobromine can be recognized by two bands (3155 and 3034cm−1). The CO-absorptions of the hydantoins appear between 1780 and 1700cm−1; they exhibit here two bands, whereby the one with the lower frequency mostly is divided into several vibrations. The purine derivatives show in the CO-region two bands (mostly split into several vibrations); the first between 1720 and 1690cm−1 and the second between 1670 and 1640cm−1. The behavior of the alkyl-, OH-and phenyl substituents is discussed. Characteristic of the purin derivatives is a band at approximately 3120cm−1 (CH-valence vibrations in the 5-ring) and two absorptions at 1610−1600cm−1 and 1560−1540 cm−1 (C=N-vibrations).
