Summary
The classical method of detecting carbon monoxide evolved during qualitative analysis by igniting it and observing the characteristic blue flame is not usually successful on the semi-micro scale. An alternative method of detection is described, using the reduction of a 0.1% solution of palladous chloride. Methods of overcoming interference by other gases are also suggested.
