Summary
The factors affecting the detection of chromate and dichromate in the presence of each other have been investigated.Feigl's suggested tests are used, and it is shown that there are limiting pH conditions at which the tests function, if carried out on solutions.
The sensitivity of the tests is greatly increased if the solutions are evaporated to dryness, when it is shown that:
-
1.
chromate can be detected in mixtures of 1∶50 chromate: dichromate and
-
2.
dichromate can be detected in 1∶33 dichromate: chromate.
