Summary
A high-purity bismuth metal or bismuth nitrate sample is dissolved in nitric acid and converted to solid basic bismuth nitrate by heating. Impurities such as iron, cobalt, copper, and zinc at the low ppm or ppb level are extracted from the solid with water and determined by DC arc emission spectrography.
