The liquid-liquid extraction of nickel(ii) and cobalt(ii) with chlorendic acid

Die Extraktion von Nickel(II) und Cobalt(II) mit Chlorendic-Säure

Summary

The solvent extraction of Ni(II) and Co(II) from perchlorate media by chlorendic acid into MIBK has been studied as a function of pH and ligand concentration. In the pH range 3–6, both metals have a maximum extraction efficiency of only 30%. Beyond pH 4.5, the plot of logD vs. pH shows a negative slope. This decline in extraction efficiency occurs in the same pH region in which there is a transition of the predominating complexing species from HL−1 to L−2. Considering this observation, the presence of L−2 does not lead to the formation of any considerable amount of extractable species. Most likely, these substances are remaining in the aqueous phase as anionic complexes.
