Effect of orientation and crystallinty on the friction and wear of polytetrafluoroethylene

  • Published:
Polymer Mechanics Aims and scope

Abstract

A study has been made of the laws governing the changes in wear of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in relation to the degree of crystallinity and the changes in friction and wear of preoriented PTFE in relation to the working conditions of the metal-polymer friction pair. From the experimental results, conclusions may be drawn concerning the possibility of increasing the wear resistance of polymers by modifying their structural characteristics.
