Summary

  1. 1.

The reaction of 1-buten-3-ynyl sulfides with water under various conditions was investigated. Under the influence of mercury sulfate with heating it leads to the hydration of the triple bond and formation of the tautomers alkyl 3-oxo-1-butenyl sulfides and alkyl 3-hydroxy-l,3-butadienyl sulfides — a new series of compounds synthesized from butadiyne.

  2. 2.

In the reaction of butenyne compounds of the type CH ≡ C — CH = CH — XR (X = S, O, N) with water the sulfur atom, like the oxygen and nitrogen atoms, raises the reactivity of the triple bond, as compared with its reactivity in butenyne. The effect of the identity of the hetero atom on the activity of the triple bond may be represented by the series N > O > S.
