Reaction of p-(trimethylsilyl)benzaldehyde with organomagnesium compounds

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

Some silicon-containing aromatic acids were prepared from p-(trimethylsilyl)benzaldehyde; these included an alcohol containing two silicon atoms.

  2. 2.

In these alcohols the Si-Car bond is stable to the action of 20–50% solutions of acids.

  3. 3.

It was shown that it is possible to bring about the dehydrocondensation of silicon-containing aromatic secondary alcohols with triethylsilane in presence of zinc chloride.
