Conclusions

  1. 1.

Rearrangement of 2,4,6,8-tetrathiaprotoadamantane into 2,4,6,8-tetrathiaadamantane was observed in the addition reaction of thioacetic acid with 1-methylene-3,5,7-trimethyl2,4,6,8-tetrathiaprotoadamantane.

  2. 2.

The addition of thioacetic acid to 1-methylene-3,5,7-trimethyl-2,4,6,8-tetrathiaprotoadamantane in ether proceeds according to the anti-Markovnikov-rule. In the absence of the solvent and the presence of an excess of the acid the Markovnikov-rule and the anti-Markovnikov-rule additions compete.
