Summary
-
1.
The course of the allo-ocimene (2,6-dimethyloctatriene-2,4,6) autoxidation has been studied. It has been found that the process proceeds in stages. The composition and properties of the intermediate products for the individual stages of the process have been described.
-
2.
The chemical properties of a secondary oxide -the main intermediate prouct of the second autoxidation stage-have been studied. It was found to be an aliphatic terpene dioxide.
-
3.
For the first time new aliphatic terpene derivatives have been obtained from the secondary oxide: an unsaturated tetrite, a saturated glycol, and a dihydmxy dimethyl ether.
-
4.
A mechanism is proposed for the allO-ocimene oxidation process.
