Summary
In the nonlinear finite element method (NFEM) for rubber-like materials, it is necessary to formulate the tangent modulus tensor D. Using abstract tensor notation, the expression of D is given in this paper. The strain energy function is invariant-based, and the compressibility of the material is considered. According to the expression of D, two elastic laws, proposed by Knowles and Sternberg [3], and Gao [4], are inserted into DIANA — a finite element code. Several examples which have analytical solutions are given to test the program.
