Summary

  1. 1.

A study was made of the kinetics of reaction between ethylenediamine and cumene hydroperoxide in aqueous and aqueous-hydrocarbon media in presence of various amounts of iron salts. It was shown that there is no direct relation between the kinetics of the decomposition of the hydroperoxide and the kinetics of polymerization. It was shown that the initiation of polymerization is not directly related to the oxidation-reduction reactions and that polymerization continuesafter the complete decomposition of the hydroperoxide.

  2. 2.

The composition of the decomposition products of the hydroperoxide was studied. The mechanism of the action of the system was examined in the light of the results obtained.
