Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

A simple method has been developed for the study of nonstationary electrode processes of short duration.

  2. 2.

It has been shown that cathodic and anodic polarization occurring during the deposition and dissolution of silver in cyanide solutions are essentially concentrational.

  3. 3.

It has been shown that three sections can be distinguished in the curves for the variation with time of anodic polarization during electrolysis at high current densities, and that these correspond to the following processes: a) dissolution of silver with formation of complex cyanide ions; b) formation of a monomolecular layer of silver oxide on the electrode surface; and c) the further thickening of the oxide film and the evolution of free oxygen.
