Conclusions
-
1.
It has been established that in the grinding of K8 glass the compounds investigated surpass silicon carbide, electrocorundum, and transition metal carbides, borides, and carbonitrides in abrasive power.
-
2.
In the grinding of K8 glass the ternary compounds of the systems Ti-Al-C and Ti-Al-N lose their abrasive power less rapidly than do other materials.
-
3.
In view of the possibilities which would be opened up by the use of titanium aluminocarbides and titanium aluminonitride as abrasives and, possibly, hard alloys, further work should be undertaken with the aim of investigating in detail the physical and, in particular, mechanical properties of these compounds.
