Quantum-chemical study of the effect of hydration on the mechanism of the nucleophilic reactions of carbonyl compounds

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

Quantum-chemical calculations were carried out for the tetrahedral adducts formed as a result of nucleophilic attack of the carbonyl group carbon atom. Electically neutral, negatively charged, and positively charged adducts are metastable chemical compounds both in the gas phase and in aqueous solution, while the bipolar adducts may exist only in solution.
