Conclusions

An x-ray diffraction structural analysis was carried out on 10-oxodibenz[b,e]iodinium (I) and 10H-dibenz[b,e]iodinium tetrafluoroborides (II). The central six-membered iodine-containing heterocycles have boat conformation. The flexure angle at the I...C13 line increases in going from trigonal to tetrahedral configuration of C13 in the central heterocycle.

The formation of additional weak covalent bonds and the establishment of square planar coordination of the iodine atom is a characteristic feature of the structures of compounds with
fragment in the condensed phase.
