Abstract
Results of studying the oxidation of UO z by Fe (III) ions in “neutral,” sulfuric acid, and chlodc acid solutions are presented. One possible mechanism by which this oxidation might take place is proposed, and various factors influencing the oxidation reaction are determined. Results of investigating the effect of SO4 '' and HSO4 ' ions on the oxidation of UO2 in chtoric acid solutions by Fe (III) ions are given. It is suggested that under the conditions studied the oxidation of uranium takes place in the diffusion region.
