Summary

  1. 1.

From a comparison of data from our own work and from the literature on the yields of the primary products of chain-growth reactions of mono- and di-acetals of various structures it is shown that in the case of saturated acetals the cause of the different reactivities of the acetals lies mainly in the presence or absence of electronaccepting substituents in theα-orβ-position relative to the acetal grouping.

  2. 2.

On this basis the different behaviors of various mono- and di-acetals in the chain-growth reaction with ethyl vinyl ether are explained.
