Function and the industrial back pain patient

Abstract

This article reviews some of the history of the development of strength testing as a part of the evaluation of industrial back patients. Both positive and negative aspects are discussed. In addition, a discussion is undertaken as to the particular area of medical professional interests into which these studies should fall. The concept reinforced by this article is the importance of testing function rather than evaluating pain in the care of industrial back pain patients.
