Abstract

The problem of the dynamic sinking of the level of the free surface of a liquid of finite depth flowing out through an opening in the bottom of a vessel is considered as a plane problem in the theory of jets of an ideal liquid. This paper gives a curve of the dependence of the depth of the dynamic sinking of the level of the free surface above a discharge opening on the relative depth of the liquid in the vessel. For the compression coefficient of the jet a value of 0.96 is obtained; this value is practically independent of the depth of the layer of liquid.
