Conclusions

  1. 1.

The Broeckhoff-de Boer theory of capillary vaporization has been generalized to cover the case in which the liquid surface tension varies with the meniscus curvature.

  2. 2.

The results of experiments on the capillary vaporization of benzene from a coarsely porous silica gel with known specific surface area have been analyzed.

  3. 3.

Allowance for the variation of the surface tension of sorbed benzene with the meniscus curvature leads to physically real results if the value of theΩ parameter of the Tolman equation is set equal to one-third of the value calculated theoretically.
