Dipole moments and molar Kerr constants of certain chloromethylalkyl sulfides

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

α-Chloromethylalkyl sulfides exist in solutions in a gauche-conformation.

  2. 2.

The C-O and C-S bonds have axially nonsymmetrical ellipsoids of polarizability.

  3. 3.

In α-chloroethers, the anisotropy of the polarizability of the C-C bond is lowered as a result of interaction with the oxygen atom.
