Conclusions
Two variations for the synthesis of N-tert-butyl-5-methyl-3-piperidone were described, and a study was made of the stereochemistry of its reduction, which proved to be mainly analogous to the stereochemistry of the reduction of the N-methyl analog. The corresponding epimers of the alcohols were isolated in the pure form.
