Conclusions

  1. 1.

Pulsed gas chromatography has been used to study the catalytic rupture of the Si-C bonds in octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (¯D4) under the action of gaseous hydrogen chloride.

  2. 2.

Reaction orders with respect to ¯D4 and HCl have been determined for the rupture process. A mechanism has been proposed on the assumption that the adsorbed ¯D4 interacts directly with HCl from the gaseous phase.

  3. 3.

Determination has been made of the activity of methanol hydrochlorination catalysts in Si-C bond rupture in the ¯D4 cyclosiloxane.
