Conclusions

  1. 1.

Additions of ions of the alkali and alkaline earth metals, beryllium, and magnesium have little effect on the activity of a Co-aluminum hydroxide catalyst in the hydropolymerization of ethylene, initiated by carbon monoxide.

  2. 2.

A Co-clay catalyst in the same reaction is promoted by small additions (oxide up to 5% of the weight of Co) of the lithium ion, is deactivated by additions of sodium, potassium, and cesium ions (5% or more), and shows little change in activity under the influence of additions of ions of beryllium, magnesium, the alkaline earth metals, and large quantities (10%) of lithium.

  3. 3.

Sulfates, phosphates, and chlorides act as poisons on both types of catalysts.

  4. 4.

Neutralization of the acid centers of the carriers of the catalysts considered does not influence their activity.
