1.
The crystalline and molecular structure of the complex (C6H5)3P·GeCl2 was determined by x-ray diffraction study. A crystal of the complex contains monomer molecules, among which only van der Waals interaction occurs. The Ge atom forms two covalent bonds with the Cl atom, and its vacant p-orbital participates in a coordination bond with the free pair of the P atom according to theσ-type.

2.
The possibility of reverse transfer of charge from the Ge atom to the P atom on account of overlapping of the occupiedσ-orbital of germanium with the vacant d-orbitals of the phosphorus atom is discussed.
