Summary
-
1.
The dehydration of 1,6-hexanediol on tricalcium phosphate catalyst results in the simultaneous formation of both the partial (hexenol, hexamethylene oxide) and complete (hexadiene) dehydration products of the glycol. The latter (hexadiene) is obtained mainly through the intermediate formation of the hexenol, which is less stable than the oxide.
-
2.
Isomerization of the formed oxide and migration of the double bonds in the diolefin accompany the main process.
