Abstract

Octachlorodimolybdate(II) ion reacts with pyridine giving a compound of stoichiometry Mo2Cl4(C5H5N)4. This compound reacts at 120 °C in the absence of oxygen with 2.2′-bipyridine and 1.10-phenanthroline, giving Mo2Cl4(C10H8N2)2 and Mo2Cl4(C12H8N2)2, resp. Magnetic measurements, IR spectra and chemical evidence are used for the identification of the new compounds.
