The intensity of the carbonyl band in the infrared spectra of sidnones

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The infrared spectra of a number of sidnones have been taken and the integral intensities of the carbonyl bonds have been measured.

  2. 2.

A study has been made of the effect of substituents and sofvents on the integral intensity of the C=O band in sidnones.

  3. 3.

The high values for the integral intensity of the C=O band found show that the pofarity of the carbonyl group in these compounds is considerable, which is apparently caused by displacement of electrons toward the carbonyl oxygen from the atoms of the ring.
