A differential equation, describing the distribution of the components of a mixture along the zone in continuous displacement with withdrawal, was derived and solved.

The continuous separation of the alkali metals K+−Na+ and Na+−Li+ was accomplished in a laboratory apparatus. The method of separation may be used to obtain very pure salts of the alkali metals.
