Summary
-
1.
An investigation was made of the catalytic transformation of nonane over two samples of 0.5% platinumaluminum silicate catalyst differing in specific surface at 360–450° under a hydrogen pressure of 10 atm in a flow system.
-
2.
It was found, as in previous work, that the extent of hydrocracking of hydrocarbons diminishes considerably with reduction in the specific surface of the catalyst.
-
3.
The conditions were found for the isomerization of nonane into branched C9 paraffins in yields of up to 54%. Over a catalyst of specific surface 320 sq. m/g (K-1) this yield was reached at 380°, and over a catalyst of specific surface 60 sq. m/g (K-2) this yield of branched C9paraffins was obtained at 450°. Under these conditions the total yields of hydrocracking products were 45.7% over Catalyst K-1 and 25.3 over Catalyst K-2.
