Reaction between dialkylborinic esters and diborane gives alkaneboronic esters and also dialkyl- and tetraalkyl-diboranes, the relative amounts of which are determined by the proportions of the reactants.

Under these conditions, slowly at room temperature but rapidly at 100°, unsymmetrical dialkyldiboranes are isomerized into symmetrical dialkyldiboranes.
