Abstract
Methods of solving inverse problems which arise in determining atomic parameters are briefly reviewed. The parametric method of studying serial perturbations in the spectra of complex elements is considered in more detail. The classification of interacting series complexes given here, together with the generalized Edlen serial formula and the corresponding results, modifies existing concepts regarding the role of interactions of different series.
