On transverse vibrations of a beam subjected to a system of pulsating forces

Conclusions

  1. 1.

If loads with equal frequencies of pulsation of the forces applied to them, and with the same velocities of motion (case B) are located close to one another, then the amplitude curve of case C hardly differs from the curve of case B.

  2. 2.

But if the initial distance between the loads, of the order 1/5 of the length of the beam, decreases since the first load, having higher velocity, approaches the second, then the maximum of the resonance curve of case D slightly decreases, and the sharpness of the maximum of this curve becomes less.

  3. 3.

If the loads move toward one another, then in both cases E and F the maxima of the resonance curves are considerably reduced.
