Abstract

A description is given of the apparatus, experimental method and results of a study of optical reflection from a rough water surface near the sun's track. The equipment used enabled measurements to be made in two coordinate planes. The studies were made in the spectral region near 1.06Μm for various solar zenith angles from 40–88‡, at wind azimuths from 60–120‡ and for a more or less constant roughness of 2 units. Results are obtained for the average brightness, the dispersion, distribution functions, autocorrelation functions, characteristics of the peaks and the way that these vary with the viewing direction in the azimuthal and elevation planes. A discussion of the results is given.
