Abstract
Approximate solutions are obtained- in analytic form- for the valence bands of crystals with the sphalerite structure at the symmetry axes and in the (110) symmetry planes. The values derived from them for the energy of heavy and light holes at the points X of the Brillouin band and also the maximum values of the spin-orbital splitting of the upper valence bands at the axes Δ and Λ are in good agreement with the available experimental data and the results of numerical calculations.
